Bank of Japan reports December 2025 transactions with government

The Bank of Japan has published its monthly report on transactions with the government and monetary base for December 2025. It details the outstanding amounts and monthly changes for key financial items.

Year-end financial positions

At the end of December 2025, the Bank of Japan reported its monetary base at 6,191,673 hundred million yen.

Outstanding Japanese Government Bonds (JGBs) held by the BOJ amounted to 4,532,237 hundred million yen.

Banknotes in circulation stood at 1,168,180 hundred million yen.

Monthly changes in central bank operations

December 2025 saw the monetary base decrease by 18,053 hundred million yen.

This monthly change was primarily driven by a reduction in Japanese Government Bond (JGB) outright purchases by 1,598 hundred million yen and JGB redemptions decreasing by 26,190 hundred million yen.
