Bank of England's balance sheet shows rising reserves

The Bank of England published its weekly report for 31 December 2025, detailing changes in its balance sheet. Reserves balances increased while notes in circulation saw a slight decrease.

Sterling liabilities in focus

The Bank of England's sterling liabilities for 31 December 2025 show reserves balances rising to £660,571 million from £656,873 million.

Notes in circulation slightly decreased to £97,418 million, down from £97,714 million the prior week.

Stable asset holdings

Sterling assets remained largely stable.

The Loan to Asset Purchase Facility held at £558,069 million.

Short-term repo operations were £98,162 million, and indexed long-term repo stood at £61,545 million.

Bond holdings increased slightly.
